Title Goes Here! (Use a keyword phrase or 2 in Title)

The purpose of this blog post is to give you suggestions on how to make your blog posts more easy to read, both for search engines and for readers.

It’s also to give you some step by steps on How to Use A WordPress Blog.


Some of the things I recommend when adding content to your blog.

  1. Use Numbered Lists: to do this click on the Icon that looks like this:

    (found in the gray bar in the WordPress Editor)

  • Use Bulleted Lists: like numbered lists, bulleted lists make it easy for readers to scan through the content.

How to Add an Image:

  1. Click on the box next to Upload/Insert

How to Add Video:

  1. Open your blog editor.
  2. Decide where you want the video clip to go on your blog.
  3. Open up another window and go to Youtube.com
  4. Find the video you’d like to use on your blog.
  5. On the right side of the screen, you’ll see a URL box and an Embed box
  6. Click in the Embed box (it should highlight all the content)
  7. Push CTRL + C to copy that code
  8. Go back to your blog editor, find where you want the Video footage to go, then click the HTML Tab (found right below the title box on the right next to the Visual Tab)
  9. Paste the video code there and click Save Draft.
  10. Click Preview to see if the video code is where you want it to be.

Header Text (it’s good to use a keyword phrase here)

Use 250-700 words of content

  • Short paragraphs (not novels)
  • Pictures
  • Over 1000 words
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Downloadable or printable
  • Bulleted lists
  • Numbered lists
  • ASK Questions! – this will encourage interaction with readers

Use Keyword Phrases You Want to Be Found For

Important Things to Remember When Blogging:

  1. Use of good keyword phrases in the Title of your blog post (don’t make it too long though)
  2. Keyword repetition throughout the content of the blog post
  3. Use keyword phrases as Anchor Links in the content that link to other blog posts on your blog or on another website –
  4. To create an anchor link , first highlight the word or phrase you want to make a link.  Then click the icon that looks like this:
    A box will appear that has the following options:
    Link URL: The link URL is the most important: that is where the keyword phrase will direct readers.
    Target: The Target gives you two options – open link in same window or open in a new window.
    Title: The title is a good place to put the keyword phrase you are highlighting (or a unique keyword phrase if you’re making a picture a link).
    Class: Don’t worry about the Class option.
  5. Become familiar with the icons B I ABC etc.
  6. Clicking on the Icon at the end (Show/Hide Kitchen Sink) can be helpful too:

  7. Experiment, practice and don’t be afraid to Publish – not many will see your initial work anyway! To “Publish” click on the icon on the right of the screen:
